KARACHI:
A member of the Shia community and a policeman were shot dead and two others wounded within a span of an hour on Friday.
Three students belonging to the Shia community were shot and injured in a firing incident in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The injured were moved to hospital where one of them, namely Murtaza, succumbed to his injuries. SHO Chaudhry Shahid said the victims were going to Orangi Town to visit their friends when armed motorcyclists targeted them.
Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen strongly condemned the incident and termed it an attempt to fan sectarianism. It also demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Separately, a police constable of the Special Branch was shot dead in North Karachi. DSP Altaf Hussain said the deceased after completing his duty was on his way to home when he was targeted, adding the incident apparently occurred over offering resistance to a robbery bid.
