Boxers will fight it out in Gwadar in PBC-sanctioned bout

National 56kg champion Nadir Baloch will take on challenger Muhammad Waqas in the Pakistan Boxing Council (PBC) super bantamweight title fight today in Gwadar.
The 27-year-old Nadir became the Pakistan Boxing Federation’s (PBF) champion in 56kg category last year but has now decided to fight under alternative sanctioning body of PBF.
His opponent Waqas is a provincial boxer, who has trained at Youth Club Quetta under Ata Muhammad Kakar — the man who also coached Pakistan’s first and only World Boxing Council Silver champion Muhammad Waseem.
Nadir is looking forward to fighting in Gwadar and wants fans to come out and support him.
“Gwadar is an interesting venue as I’ve heard that boxing is one of its two major sports, with the other being football,” Nadir told The Express Tribune. “It is the first time I’ll fight there. Of course, if this fight was in Karachi it would’ve been an advantageous for me as it is my home turf.”
Meanwhile, PBC vice-president Abdul Hameed revealed that there will be at least two more fights on the undercard and added that the idea behind holding the event in Gwadar is to promote boxing in Balochistan.
The fight between Nadir and Waqas was originally scheduled to take place on November 5, but it was delayed due to technical reasons as the organisers had trouble constructing the ring.
The fight purse has been set at Rs20,000.
