Bill Clinton congratulates Donald Trump on presidential win
Move comes a day after Hillary Clinton came out in public and conceded to the Republican winner
Former President Bill Clinton called Donald Trump on Thursday and congratulated him on his election as the 45th president of the United States, his aide said.
The move comes a day after Bill Clinton teared up when his wife Hillary Clinton came out in public and conceded to the Republican winner.
"President Clinton phoned President-elect Trump this afternoon," Clinton’s aide said adding, "During the brief call, President Clinton congratulated Trump and wished him well."
Donald Trump claims protests against him 'very unfair'
The 42nd US President had spent years helping out his wife run for the presidency and called Trump unqualified and unfit for the position, going to an extent to accusing the Republican of feeding his supporter with only negativity.
"This is what is the matter with politics," Bill Clinton was quoted as saying last month about Trump. "When other people pour poison down your throat, don't drink it."
Similarly, Trump accused Bill Clinton of sexual impropriety and in fact made it a key component of his campaign. The firebrand leader also regularly called Clinton’s presidency a failure.
Gentlemanly transition: Obama, Trump share White House hopes
Prior to the second debate, the Republican even invited three women to talk who had accused Clinton of impropriety to attend the event.
Interestingly, the fraternity of ex presidents has maintained cordial relations, even if they have severe difference with one another. The former presidents have also tried to avoid criticising their successors.
Meanwhile, Bill and Hillary Clinton went out in public on Thursday as a woman out for a walk in in New York posted a photo with the Democrat.
