Windows 10 will now feature a virtual trackpad
Microsoft's Creators Update is expected to be released early next year
Microsoft announced a ‘creators update’ for its Windows 10 operating software last month. The update, which is expected to be rolled out next year, includes new features for augmented and virtual reality gaming among others.
While Microsoft refrained from revealing all the new features of the update, a new test version of the OS released on Wednesday shows that the new Windows will feature a virtual trackpad.
Microsoft takes on slack with new workplace app
This latest feature allows users to control external monitors with tablets, without the need of a mouse. The virtual trackpad feature, which has been placed in the task bar, provides a platform on the screen which can be used to move the cursor and also includes right-click and left-click options.
The new feature is expected to fare well with Windows 10 tablet users who don’t use the additional keyboard or are using their tablets as second displays regularly. That's probably not a lot of Windows 10 users as tablet sale for all major producers haven’t been impressive over the past few years. Microsoft’s new products and recent updates could be seen as an attempt to boost sales in the stagnant market.
Microsoft takes on Apple with the new Surface Studio
The creators update to Windows 10 will also include other improved features such as the revamped Sticky Notes app, more languages and regions support and the ability to recognise emails, URLs, phone numbers, addresses and stocks in a number of new countries.
Microsoft is also improving its Windows Ink features, with quick access to pen settings, options to shrink and expand the protractor with a mouse, and improved performance of the Sketchpad app when lots of digital ink is used.
