Police quoted locals as saying some villagers went to offer prayers and found Rehman dead
ABBOTTABAD:
Unidentified assailants gunned down a prayer leader in the remote village of Havelian tehsil, police said on Wednesday.
Havelian police said Qari Fazalur Rehman, 46, son of Momin Shah, was the prayer leader of Masjid Sadaat in Garhi Phulgran village for the last few years.
With the consent of locals, he was living in close proximity to the mosque where he taught local village children.
Police quoted locals as saying some villagers went to offer prayers and found Rehman dead. He had been shot multiple times. They added the prayer leader hailed from Nara Amazai village in Haripur and may have had an old enmity which led to the murder. The officials said the case was being investigated from all angles.
On October 23, another prayer leader and president of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek’s Haripur chapter, Maulana Shoukat Nawaz, alias Shaukat Rizvi, was gunned down by unidentified assailants.
