Defence ministry stops PSO from building new oil storages
The company was seeking 25,000 tons of jet A-1 fuel for delivery in January through a spot tender that closed on December 5 and was valid until December 10. This has now been cancelled after the November 26 Nato air attack that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers, one of the sources said.
With reference to a news story that appeared in The Express Tribune on November 2 titled “Defence ministry stops PSO from building new oil storages”, it is clarified that the Ministry of Petroleum had submitted a proposal to the defence ministry to obtain a no-objection certificate for building new oil storages at the Keamari oil installation area. The defence ministry conveyed to the petroleum ministry that construction of all petroleum and non-petroleum storage tanks in the oil installation area had been banned by the government and therefore it could not entertain the request. It asked the petroleum ministry to process a summary for seeking exemption for the development of new oil storages from the National Security Council/cabinet.
