LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court has sought details by December 14 of any awareness campaign as well as safety measures taken by the government to control smog in Punjab. Health secretary Dr Sajid, environment secretary Saif Anjum and chief meteorologist Muhammad Raiz appeared before the court, claiming Indian farmers had set ablaze 32m tonnes of rice crop stubble because of which smog had descended upon Lahore. However, LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah instead asked the officials about the measures taken by the Punjab environment department. Climate change, he added, was the biggest security risk to the country.
