KARACHI: Candid remarks about the future nuptials of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari — one of the country’s most eligible bachelors — eclipsed most events in the country’s fast-paced news cycle on Saturday as individuals representing a wide spectrum of opinions offered a variety of tips and guidance.

It all started when Bilawal grinned from ear to ear in response to a question about his marriage on Saturday and after scratching his ears and nose for a while told the reporter that there are already many marriage proposals for him.

“But the right candidate will first have to win over the hearts of my sisters. I have to take them into confidence. And winning over the hearts of my sisters is a very difficult task for any girl,” he added.

Flanked by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other senior leaders, he said, “The girl whom my sisters choose will also be lucky. It will be a difficult task for the girl who wants to marry me.”

As the statement went viral, political leaders started commenting on it. And the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Abid Sher Ali was among the first to suggest that Bilawal get married as soon as possible.

“Bilawal can convince his sisters to let him marry the person of his choice,” he said, suggesting Bilawal not to follow in his ‘uncle’ Imran Khan’s footsteps who has gotten divorced twice.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said, “It is good that Bilawal has decided to marry.”

MQM leader Rauf Siddiqui also chimed in and asked the PPP scion to marry the one he loves or likes, adding that otherwise he will be facing problems.

However, astrologer Samiah Khan, suggested that Bilawal should wait.  “He is too young,” she said, adding that prospects of his successful marriage now seemed weak and he should avoid marrying till 2019.

“There will be no sustainability in his marriage if he goes for it now,” she said. “He should carry on with his politics at present and wait for a while.”
