In court: Nisar Morai indicted in murder case
Rangers took the former FCS chief in preventive detention for three months

A sessions court indicted on Friday a former chairperson of the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) in an 18-year-old murder case of a former chief of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).
Dr Nisar Morai has been charged over his alleged involvement in the murder of former PSM chairperson Sajjad Hussain, who was gunned down in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in 1998. The additional district and sessions judge (Central) read out the charges against the accused.
However, he pleaded not guilty and decided to contest. Therefore, the court summoned the prosecution witnesses on November 17 to record their evidence.
According to the prosecution, former PSM chief was shot dead on September 11, 1998, in DHA while he was on his way home.
The charge-sheet said that Salimuddin alias Sallu and Sohail Ahmed alias Panga were arrested in September, 1999, and, during the interrogation, the two suspects disclosed that the then Sindh home minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, had allegedly telephoned them and asked them to kill the former PSM chief since he was going to make a statement against Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari in a corruption case.
The former president, Zardari, Dr Mirza, Mohammed Khan Chachar, Salimuddin and Sohail were nominated as co-accused in the case.
However, Zardari was acquitted in 2003 and Dr Mirza was exonerated in 2007 while the trial court had convicted Chachar. However, Chachar was acquitted by the high court.
Salimuddin and Sohail Ahmed were declared proclaimed offenders in the case.
In March this year, the Rangers took the former FCS chief in preventive detention for three months and handed him over to the police in June in the present case. He confessed to his involvement in the case, claimed Rangers. Later, he was released on bail.
