SUKKUR:
Four policemen, including an SHO, were booked on Monday morning for beating a wagon driver near Ghouspur.

On Sunday evening, a passenger bus, which was on its way from Kandhkot to Sukkur, was stopped by a group of policemen, led by Ghouspur SHO Rafiq Khero, who allegedly demanded bribes. When driver Sajjid Suhriyani refused to pay, the policemen pulled him out of the vehicle and thrashed him.

Suhriyani was critically injured when other drivers on the same route found him. They blocked the road for nearly four hours in protest. Kandhkot SPO negotiated with the protesters and assured them that the culprits would be arrested after which they dispersed and the victim was taken to Kandhkot hospital.

Ghouspur police registered a case on the complaint of the driver’s brother Sachal Suhriyani, who nominated SHO Khero and three policemen, Imran Bhutto, Maqsood Malik and Allah Bux Soomro, in the FIR. An officer said that the booked policemen are still at duty and the authorities have yet to take action.

Meanwhile, Kashmore DPO Asad Raza Shah supported the four policemen. He told The Express Tribune that three bandits were travelling in that wagon and had tried to escape when the police signalled the driver to stop.

According to Shah, the driver dropped off the bandits after covering some distance and the police managed to catch up to him after that. The SHO argued with the driver, which led to the scuffle. The SHO took the driver to a hospital for treatment.
