KARACHI:
A woman, whose husband and sons were picked up in 2007, has taken a former Intelligence Bureau director to court, alleging that he and other police officers kidnapped the men and released them after she paid Rs5 million in ransom.

On Monday, Judge Hafeeza Usman ordered the inspector-general of police to arrest and produce Manzoor Mughal and SPs Tahir Noorani, Gul Hameed Sammo and Agha Asghar Ali Pathan before the court on March 7.

The order was passed during the hearing of the case, FIR No. 245/2010 at the Korangi Industrial Area police station, filed by Amina, wife of industrialist Haji Seth Zakaria.

Her husband and her sons were kidnapped and then released after a Rs5 million ransom was paid, she alleges.

According to the FIR registered on June 6, 2007, Amina, her husband and two sons were coming from Korangi Industrial Area when at Chamra Chowrangi their car was stopped by a police team, led by the then DSP Tahir Noorani.  Haji Zakaria and his sons Muhammad Zeeshan Seth and Muhammad Zohaib Seth were taken away.

Their case was tried and the men were exonerated, after which she lodged a case alleging that then CIA DIG Manzoor Mughal, Tahir Noorani, DSP Agha Asghar Ali Pathan and SP (now ADIG) Gul Hameed Sammo released them after the family paid them the ransom.
