After splitting with Ballon d'Or, FIFA introduces new awards

Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony which be held on January 9 in Zurich next year

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) have announced eight awards for the upcoming Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony which will be held on January 9 in Zurich next year.

The move comes after the football governing body separated itself from the French magazine for the Ballon d’Or award. Fifa ran a separate World Player of the Year award from 1991 until 2009.

Fans from all over the world would be able to vote for the FIFA world player of the year award.

The awards will include men's and women's player and coach awards, which will be decide by a two-part process.


The voting process will include votes of the head coaches of all national teams which will comprise the 50% of the result.

Messi, Ronaldo go head-to-head for Ballon d'Or again


The other 50% will be split between votes from 200 media representatives from all over the world and an online public ballot.

The 23 candidates for the men's award will be announced coming Friday with a three-man shortlist to be confirmed on December 2.
