EDO says a special unit ‘Basic Health Plus’ is being introduced
MULTAN:
All Basic Health Units (BHUs) will remain open round-the-clock to provide treatment to women during pregnancy. Health Executive District Officer Dr Iftikhar Qureshi said this on Sunday.
He said as per the report issued by International Health Organisation, 830 women die each day during child delivery, he added.
He said Punjab government was taking all necessary measures to provide basic facilities to the masses. He added the chief minister ordered to upgrade BHUs to health plus.
The EDO further said at least 82 BHUs were working in Multan. “18 Basic Health Units are working round-the-clock, while 13 more are being added in that category.”
He maintained that BHUs would be equipped with all the facilities to provide treatment to mother and child.
Iftikhar pointed out that a lady doctor along with other staff would be available round-the-clock to address any emergency situation.
He said a special unit Basic Health Plus was being introduced which would function 365 days.
He said Punjab government had set a target of upgradation of 24 BHUs to Basic Health Plus and 10 of them would be made functional in a week.
