Social gaps: Workshop held on reproductive health
It was discussed people from low-income background face hurdles
LAHORE:
The people from low-income backgrounds — who are at a high risk of contracting diseases during the reproductive process — often face hurdles in seeking the relevant health information due to their social status. This was discussed at a workshop held in the city on Saturday.
The key segment of the population should not be excluded from the policy network, Punjab AIDS Control Program Project Director Dr Adnan Zafar Khan said while addressing participants of the workshop. It was titled, ‘Addressing Stigma and Discrimination in Healthcare Settings’.
The training was divided segmented into two sessions during which participants discussed all the aspects of the issue concerned.
The workshop was organised by Punjab AIDS Control Program, of Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department in collaboration with United Nations Programme of HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and United Nations Development Assistance Plan. It was the first such kind of training that had representatives from the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa health care departments.
The meeting brought together the stakeholders, including development partners, community-based actors, NGOs, health care providers and representatives from the UN system.
Officials of UNAIDS and United Nations Development Programme were also in attendance on the occasion.
