KARACHI: SSGC middle-order batsman Fawad Alam, fresh after getting snubbed from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s central contracts, showed no signs of disappointment as he stood his ground against HBL on the second day of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar, yesterday.
SSGC were at 164-7 at the end of play in reply to HBL’s first inning total of 299, with Alam still on the crease with an unbeaten 40-run knock.
Fahim Ashraf and Usman Khan bagged two wickets apiece for the bankers, while Umar Gul, Yamin Ahmadzai and Zohaib Khan took a wicket apiece.
Sidelined from the national team, Kamran Akmal continued his brilliant form with the bat after scoring 94 runs as WAPDA took control against UBL at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.
Zaman century takes HBL to 230-5
WAPDA, after scoring 227 runs, claimed three UBL wickets as the bankers ended the day 42-3.
In another game, Hamza Nadeem (5-67) grabbed a five wicket haul as Islamabad restricted Karachi Blues to 259 on the opening day at the National Stadium of Karachi.
Fazal Subhan was the top scorer for Blues with a knock of 79 runs.
At the NBP Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi put on a brilliant bowling show to dismiss Karachi Whites on 198 runs.
SSGC hoping to bank on HBL’s weakness
Shadab Khan took three wickets, while Ataullah, Abid Hasan and Kashif Bhatti claimed a brace each. In reply, Rawalpindi were on 39-1 at stumps.
In Lahore, FATA confined Lahore Whites to 33-2 after being bowled out for 218 at the LCCA Ground.
KRL were 239-9 against SNGPL at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, while PIA were on 238-8 against NBP in Multan.
