Dera Ghazi Khan crime: 159 proclaimed offenders arrested in February
District chief prioritises illegal detention, torture and corruption cases.

Dera Ghazi Khan police arrested 159 proclaimed offenders and 30 court absconders and seized a large quantity of illegal weapons and drugs from their possession in February.
This was stated by district police officer Malik Tasadduq Hayat at a press conference at Shuhada Hall in Police Lines on Sunday.
He said the police seized 28 motorcycles, sevan cars, a wagon, two tractors, an APV, an ambulance van, and a truck during the raids in the month.
He said 368 people were arrested and sent to jail on charges of gambling and possession of illegal weapons. Of these, he said, 127 were arrested in 28 cases of gambling in which Rs70,055 cash, 15 mobile phones, a wrist watch and a motorcycle were seized.
The weapons seized during these raids included 11 Kalashnikov rifles, nine 0.12 bore rifles, three other rifles, 75 pistols, 20 0.32 bore revolvers, 20 carbines, four repeaters, and 3,641 cartridges.
During a crackdown on narcotics, the DPO said, the police had arrested 97 men in 88 different cases. About 3.4 kg heroine, 3.87 kg charas and 140 gram opium and 484 bottles of liquor were recovered from their possession, he said.
Of the 159 people wanted for various crimes and 30 absconders, the DPO said, nine were wanted in murder cases, two in robbery, two in dacoity, two for kidnapping for ransom and three in terrorism cases.
He said six of the nine murder suspects were arrested by Saddar and Kot Mubarak police in a special crackdown on launched by CIA’s Muhammad Iqbal Chandio, Elite Force’s Inspector Bakht Nasar and QRF officials. He encouraged those wanted for murder, kidnapping for ransom and robbery cases to surrender. “I assure you that you will be get a fair chance to defend the charges against you in a court of law,” he said.
He said his first priority was to maintain law and order in the district.
He said he had issued strict directives to all station house officers that departmental action would be taken against them in case they failed to address citizen’s complaints and root out criminal elements. “They have been told to give priority to illegal detention, torture and corruption cases and forward these to the courts as soon as they can so that justice is administered without delay,” he said. He sought citizens’ cooperation and urged them to report any suspicious thing or person.
