KARACHI: Police officials investigating the mass heist at MA Jinnah Road have yet to trace the group behind the robbery.

Robbers had taken away cash and valuables worth around Rs3 million from nearly 22 shops at the Jami Centre on MA Jinnah Road, within the limits of Aram Bagh police station, late Thursday night.

"So far, we are yet to find any crucial evidence that could help us," said Aram Bagh SHO Asif Rauf. "We have also reviewed the footage recorded in the CCTV cameras but did not find anything worthwhile."

The officer said that the police had taken the market's guard into custody for questioning but released him later.  “But, we still have our doubts about the guard as after watching the CCTV footage, we found that he did not mention certain details which we were present in the footage,” the officer explained.

A case has been registered on behalf of the centre's president against unidentified persons while further investigation is under way.

Such heists have been on the rise and similar incidents have occurred in Urdu Bazaar, Plaza and Empress Market in a span of just a couple of months, all situated in the old city area. However the law enforcers have yet to successfully probe any of the cases. The investigators suspect that the same group of robbers could have been behind the series of mass robberies but nothing could be concluded till the investigation is completed.
