KARACHI: Five suspects were remanded on Friday to police custody in a case pertaining to the murder of a couple in the name of ‘honour’ while police were also ordered to exhume the bodies.

Police said that Irfana and her cousin, Azmat, were allegedly killed by their relatives on October 25 this year in Madina Town, Quaidabad, on the pretext of so-called ‘honour’.

The investigation officer produced the brothers of the slain woman, identified as Saeed Nawaz, Sarfaraz Khan and Umar Nawaz, along with their uncle, Lal Qadir, and his son, Hidayatullah, before the court and sought their custody for questioning and arrest of the absconders. Police have shown the woman’s husband, Nizam Khan, and his brother, Arshad, along with Zainullah, Umar and Shazia as absconders in the remand papers.

Malir judicial magistrate handed over the suspects to the police on a four-day physical remand.

Meanwhile, Malir district and sessions judge allowed an application of the police seeking permission of exhumation of the victims’ bodies.
