Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Zaman century takes HBL to 230-5
Batsman makes 100 against SSGC on opening day
KARACHI:
Fakhar Zaman struck a stylish century for HBL on the opening day of their fifth-round Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match against SSGC to guide his side to a convincing total of 230-5 at the Arbab Niaz Stadium yesterday.
Having been asked to bat first, HBL made a shaky start to the innings by losing openers Imamul Haq (22) and Azeem Ghumman (six) early on. Zaman, however, stepped in and anchored the innings with Zohaib Khan, who was unbeaten on 66 at stumps, to lay a strong foundation for his side.
Zaman hit a whopping 16 boundaries in his 167-ball stay to reach his century mark before being caught by wicketkeeper Saifullah Bangash off Adnan Ghaus’ delivery on 100.
Following Zaman’s dismissal, HBL lost two more wickets — Aftab Alam (naught) and Rameez Aziz (eight), but Jamal Anwar and Zohaib held on to finish the day at 230-5.
SSGC, missing captain Shoaib Malik, were being led by Fawad Alam.
Muhammad Irfan Jr claimed two wickets, giving away 56 runs from 22 overs, while Adil Amin, Adnan Ghaus and Ziaul Haq claimed a wicket apiece for 21, 38 and 74 runs respectively.
