Healthcare boost: Interest-free loans for medical professionals 

Up to Rs700,000 will be given to doctors, dentists, medical practitioners

LAHORE: The Punjab Health Foundation (PHF) will launch smart, interest-free loan schemes by the year end for doctors, dentists, nurses and other health professionals to setup their own clinics.

This was announced by Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah while talking to the media on Tuesday after presiding over a meeting of PHF’s technical and finance committee.

Three types of loan packages would be introduced under this scheme. Loans of Rs200,000 would be offered to registered hakims, homeopathy doctors and nurses. Up to Rs700,000 will be given to doctors, dentists, medical practitioners while Rs2.5 million would be offered to those interested in establishing large clinics.

The PHF has introduced a helpline 0800-99000 for the applicants to get information and guidance regarding the loan scheme. The government will also set up endowment and revolving funds separately for the income of PHF and disbursement of loans to the health professionals.

The Punjab Healthcare Commission would also be taken on board for verification of eligibility of the candidates.
