Using technology: ECP to use GIS in next general elections
ECP has begun training master trainers who will later train field staff in the next phase
ISLAMABAD:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced plans to use Geographical Information System (GIS) in the next general elections likely to take place in 2018.
Talking to reporters, ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad said the commission would make use of modem technology to ensure the results were transparent. For this purpose, it would use GIS and put results of all the polling stations on its website immediately after these were compiled.
He said the ECP would compile data of all the polling stations by December this year. This would minimise chances of changing polling stations at the 11th hour, he added.
The ECP has begun training master trainers who will later train field staff in the next phase.
