Special branch’s official gunned down in Charsadda

More than 80 police officials have so far been killed in Charsadda during the recent wave of militancy

Unidentified assailants on Monday gunned down an official of Peshawar police’s special branch in Charsadda district.

Imran Mohmand, an official at Charsadda’s City police station, told The Express Tribune that sub inspector Ali Akbar was on his way to office after dropping his children to school when he was waylaid by armed motorcyclists in Gulabad area.

“The gunmen opened fire at Akbar, who died on the spot,” he said, adding that after the incident law enforcers rushed to the spot and moved the body to the District Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy.


“The police are investigating the case and hope to track down the culprits soon,” he added.

More than 80 police officials have so far been killed in Charsadda during the recent wave of militancy. Apart from police, several Frontier Corps and other paramilitary forces’ officials, as well as political workers, have also been targeted in the district in the last few years.

Meanwhile, the law enforcing agencies have also arrested a large number of wanted and suspected militants and their facilitator from the area during recent combing operations in the area.
