FAISALABAD:
The provincial education department has initiated action against 669 heads of schools and 25 assistant education officers in Faisalabad district over their failure to achieve enrolment targets in government-run schools in their respective jurisdictions.

Education Executive District Officer Bashir Zahid Goraya told journalists on Monday the target for each and every school of the district was fixed in consonance with the directions of the provincial education department.

“Assistant education officers and heads of the schools were clearly told they will ensure enrolment in their respective areas and if they fail to achieve the target, they will have to face the music,” he said, adding that action was being taken against 669 heads of the schools and 25 assistant education officers, who failed to achieve the enrolment target.

The EDO said school heads and assistant education officers were appointed to ensure enrolment of fresh students. He pointed out the officials were warned earlier that if they failed to achieve the target then action would be initiated against them under Punjab Employee Efficiency Discipline and Accountability Act 2006.

Bashir said show-cause notices had been issued to the officials and further proceedings would be initiated after receiving replies from them.

Earlier in August, the education department had ordered action against heads of public schools with poor performance in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act 2006.

The SSC Part-1 results that were declared earlier in 2016 were poor. Therefore, action was sought against principals with poor performing schools.
