My role empowers individuals who stammer, says Yasir Hussain
Moti will be joined by Saba Qamar in next adventure ‘Lahore Se Aagey’
KARACHI:
In Karachi Se Lahore, Yasir Hussain’s character, Moti, was in the background but with the spinoff Lahore Se Aagey, he will take the spotlight. The sidekick who stammered and belted hilarious dialogue one after the other became a household in the entertainment industry by not only winning accolades for his performance but also hosting popular awards shows as Moti. Talking to The Express Tribune, Hussain and his leading lady in Lahore Se Aagey, Saba Qamar, spill the beans on the road movie and what to expect of it.
Hussain says that Moti empowers people who are looked down on for stammering. “My role sets an example. It shows that people who are impaired can also achieve everything in life if they are smart enough. It gives a powerful message that impairment can never make you weak or belittle you,” says Hussain. “Moti stammers but he is smart and knows how to effectively convey his message despite his impairment.”
Interestingly, Moti speaks only when needed and this is the reason everyone listens to him when he talks. “We also have a dialogue in the movie, ‘Haklata nai, soch k bolta hun’. (I don’t stammer, I just think before speaking.”
Moti comes across different obstacles in life but there is nothing that makes him fall weak. “People who are impaired can be heroes as well just like Moti, who saves the day with his intelligence and gets the girl he wants in the end,” he adds. “We didn’t use the impairment to make people laugh but we elevated an impaired individual. Moti delivers piquant, hilarious one-liners to make people chuckle. His character is interesting and smart.”
The actor shares that people who have this impairment in real life often look up to him because of the character he plays in the film. “A few people came to me and spoke like Moti, so initially I thought they are copying my character however, later I realised they stammer in real life. They told me they are my fans,” states Yasir.
Hussain will be sharing screen space with Saba Qamar, whose character may not be there in the previous edition of the franchise, but she believes Tara has everything thing it takes to complement Moti.
“Taara is funny, energetic rock star whose character will go through a transformation as the story unfolds,” Qamar tells The Express Tribune.
Qamar says Taara is unlike the roles she has played previously. “Taara is a far cry from the desi roles I played in my projects as of yet. People have always seen me in shalwar kameez as a shareef girl, so they’ll be surprised to see me in a western avatar as I play an urban girl in the film. It’ll be something new for my audience.”
The romantic-comedy is slated to release on November 11 and will also star Behroz Sabzwari, Rubina Ashraf, Abdullah Farhatullah, Noorul Hasan, Mubashir Malik and Omer Sultan.
