At least 1,000 plants have been donated for the historical main campus building of Government College University, Lahore. The saplings were planted on Friday at the inauguration of a tree plantation drive. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Hassan Shah said the university needed to be given a clean and green environment so that people on campus could be protected from pollution. The plants have been given to the varsity by an alumnus and businessperson Tahir Azam. The donated plants include bottle palm, ashoka (inverted), bottlebrushes, gul mohr, Buddha and date palm trees. Azam, who is a regular donor to GCU Endowment Fund Trust, has also pledged providing plants for the university’s Kala Shah Kaku Campus.
