Blind turn: Three killed, three injured as van plunges into ravine

Three people were killed and three others, including two women, sustained critical injuries on Wednesday after a Suzuki van they were travelling in plunged into a ravine near Nawazabad, some 55km from the city centre.

All six were from the same family.


Police and eyewitnesses said that the passengers in the van were on their way to Dewli village to attend a funeral. While negotiating a blind turn near Nawazabad, the driver lost control of the vehicle, plunging it several feet deep into a ravine.

Daud Shah, his brother Mir Afzal Shah, and his daughter-in-law Shakila Bibi were killed on the spot, while Niaz Shah, Hameeda Bibi and Samina Bibi were critically injured.  Rescue workers moved the injured and the bodies to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, from where all the injured were referred to Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad. Doctors said all of the injured persons were still in critical condition when this report was filed.
