Funeral: Bishop Anthony laid to rest

RAWALPINDI: The Christian community of the twin cities bade farewell to Rufin Anthony, bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi, on Wednesday in a solemn funeral at St Joseph’s Cathedral in Lal Kurti.

The bishop had died on October 17 after a prolonged illness.

Bishop Anthony was laid to rest in Christian graveyard near Lal Kurti. His funeral was attended by thousands of people, including the bishops of Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Multan, and Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan Archbishop Ghaleb Bader.

Bishop Joseph Arshad from Faisalabad led the funeral prayers.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Father Hilary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Westridge, said he had known the Bishop since 2012 and found him very humble and full of spirit for public service.

Bishop Anthony was ordained as a priest in 1969, and was ordained as a bishop in 2009. He became bishop for Islamabad-Rawalpindi in 2010.
