Busted: Seven arrested for looting houses
They would pose as domestic workers
ISLAMABAD:
The police have arrested seven suspects including six women for allegedly looting several houses in the guise of domestic workers.
The Islamabad Police Special Investigation Unit (SIU) made the arrests and recovered stolen goods including a gold necklace, two earrings, and Rs35,000 in cash.
The suspects were identified as Robeena, Shahnaz, Muhammad Saleem, Firdous Bibi, Rukhsana, Ayesha Bibi, and Akhtar Nasreen.
Police said Robeena and Shahnaz were booked by the Golra police for a jewellery theft from a house in Sector E-11/2 on August 21. The suspects were employed by the homeowner as housemaids.
They were also wanted by the Sabzi Mandi police and the Shalimar police in similar cases registered in 2011 and 2016, respectively. Both suspects hail from Jaranwala, Faisalabad District.
The other four arrested persons were suspects in two robberies in G-8 and G-9 earlier this year. Both robberies took place in the jurisdiction of the Karachi Company police.
SIU officials said they expected the suspects to give up more information during interrogations. The performance of the team that tracked down and nabbed the suspects was appreciated by senior police officers and they have been promised commendation certificates and cash prizes.
Commenting on the development, a police officer advised citizens to verify the credentials of domestic staff before hiring them. He said the police were still probing dozens of theft cases involving maids and other domestic workers.
