ISLAMABAD:
A sessions court on Saturday sentenced a man arrested for possessing illicit drugs to one month in jail and imposed a fine of Rs10,000.
Shaukat Mehmood had been arrested by the Shahzad Town police for possessing 210 grammes of heroin on June 18.
On Saturday, Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Shahrukh Arjumand sentenced the suspect to serve a month in jail and imposed a fine of Rs10,000.
Mehmood, was given the benefit of Section 382-B of the Code of Criminal Procedure under which the court considered the nearly four months he spent in police custody while waiting for the trial to be conducted and conclude, as part of his jail sentence already served.. Hence, his actual prison sentence was commuted to just 30 days.
Meanwhile, the same court also acquitted a woman who had been booked for allegedly kidnapping her niece. Gulshan Rehman had been booked by Nilore police in June this year for abducting her niece.
However, she was acquitted after the complainant withdrew their complaint against Rehman.
