Energy supply: PPIB approves work on 26 power projects

Out of these, 16 projects of 6,339MW capacity are hydropower while nine projects of 7,423MW are based on coal

ISLAMABAD: The Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) is currently processing 26 power generation projects based on Independent Power Producers (IPPs) with a cumulative capacity of 13,882 megawatts (MW).

Out of these, 16 projects of 6,339MW capacity are hydropower while nine projects of 7,423MW are based on coal, said official sources.

“In addition to these projects, PPIB was also processing R-LNG-based power projects of around 3,600MW in the public sector,” they added. “Three projects with a capacity of 2,127MW would be completed by 2017 and 2018 respectively.

“Similarly, two projects of 265MW capacity would start generation in 2019, three projects of 2,700MW in 2020, 2 projects of 1,450MW in 2021, eight projects of 2,692MW in 2022, two projects of 1,450MW in 2013 and three projects of 1,218MW in 2024.”
