Annie Khalid shares why you shouldn't shame women marrying again

The Mahiya singer discusses the stigma attached to a divorcee in Pakistan

Annie Khalid of Mahiya fame shared a personal post about her second marriage and divorce and it went viral - for all the right reasons.

Societal norms enable women to be belittled if she chooses to break free of an abusive or toxic marriage. Annie, in her emotional yet powerful posts scribes that she is indeed 'sick' of the abuse hurled at her for getting married twice.

The marriage of feminism and fashion

Her post opens up by questioning if it is a sin to re-marry. She went on to state the obvious monstrosity of the divorce-shame culture Pakistan has saying, "What atrocious Pakistani culture we have where divorcee women are scandalised and stigmatised in our society. They become 'black sheep' or 'damaged goods'.

The singer also addressed how women are constantly blamed for the failure of marriage and how they don't try hard enough to sustain the relationship. Moreover, the women who are supposed to be supportive during testing times often lack empathy which is utterly hurtful for those going through such a tough ordeal.

Annie shared that she had to be the voice of many women who have been divorced and how they should not fall prey to such harsh comments.
