Vogue celebrates diversity of South Asian beauty with new cover

We often see high-end fashion magazines featuring women with fairer complexions, complying with bizarre beauty standards. However, Vogue India, with their new cover featured models from South Asia and broke a few stereotypes.
'Pakistan's Sweethearts' set to sizzle in Vogue India
The cover features Indian model Pooja Mor, Nepalese model Varsha Thapa, Bangladeshi model Peya Jannatul, Sri Lankan model Shenelle Rodrigo, Maldivian model Raudha Athif, and Bhutanese model Deki Dorji Wangmo.
It has been received a lot of positive feedback since its release.
Some of these models are aspiring lawyers and doctors, reports Vogue India.
Trend spotting: Vertical stripes in vogue
Vogue shared a story of Jannatul Ferdoush Peya, one of the cover girls, who was born and raised in a conservative Muslim family in a small town called Khulna. Her career in modelling wasn’t an easy road to tread. Her love for fashion and a chance meeting with well-known Bangladeshi photographer Apurbo Abdul Latif lead her to participate in, and win, the Miss Bangladesh contest just after she finished school.
In 2010, she bagged her first big campaign with clothing line Aarong and soon ventured into acting. “Deepika Padukone is a huge inspiration—like her, I too want to expand my career beyond my country,” says the law graduate who is currently interning with Dr Kamal Hossain & Associates, one of Dhaka’s biggest law firms. Her dream job is, “To work with Karl Lagerfeld. He’s an icon!”
