More than 10,000 refugees rescued in two days from the Mediterranean
More than 10,000 refugees have been rescued off Libya and Italy in series of operations in the past 48 hours. At least 142,000 migrants have reached Italy since the start of the year and about 3,100 have died making the trip. The vast majority come from African countries including Nigeria, Eritrea, Guinea, Gambia, Sudan, Ivory Coast and Somalia.
