ISLAMABAD:
Political parties in Rawalpindi have started preparing for elections on the 25 reserved seats for local government.

Elections on these seats will get underway nearly 10 months after direct polls for the local bodies ended.

Rawalpindi District Council has a total of 25 special seats, while each union council would have five special seats including two for women and one each for labour, minority and youth.


According to a schedule for the polls announced by the ECP, nomination papers can be filed on October 14 and 15.

Polling for indirect seats of women, peasants, non-Muslims, youth and technocrats in district councils, municipal corporations and metropolitan corporation would be held on November 8. Elections for indirect seats of municipal committees will be held on November 10 and indirect seat’s elections of union councils are scheduled for November 12.
