four fabulous looks for the modern day bride and her closest friends. He pushes the boundaries to show us how to incorporate the hottest hair and make-up trends this year into the upcoming wedding season — get your pen and paper out!
Designer: Misha Lakhani
Collection: Bejeweled
Event: Mehndi
We wanted to create a look that was young and soft for the mehndi bride to keep her from looking like an ‘aunty.’ We made a garland around the head. Many girls have garlands made out of flowers, but we created ours out of braids. Misha Lakhani’s top was stunning so we left the make-up subdued with a maroon lip colour to match the lining that was peeping out from her blouse. This look is young and fun, making it perfect for a mehndi bride.
Designer: Élan
Collection: Jasmine Court
Event: Valima
We got this beautiful piece by Élan that has cutwork on it. This is a bridal look, so we wanted to keep it very feminine. The bride can drape a dupatta or leave it as is and people will be in complete awe. It is a combination of curls at the back with a peeping braid on the side and a sweeping fringe in the front. For the make-up we wanted to maintain a feminine touch so we kept a dewy look with no contouring, but added a peach blush to highlight her cheekbones. Her eye shadow was a sky-blue shade on the lid and had an extended but blended eyeliner to go with it. This is the ultimate modern look for a modern bride.
Designer: The House of Kamiar Rokni
Collection: Heritage 2016
For the Bridesmaid
The House of Kamiar Rokni’s dress was a lovely pink and orange piece with gold tassels. The silhouette was made with a 60’s style straight cut, so we wanted to create a 60’s hairstyle with it. We ended up giving the model a wraparound elegant ponytail that any client can do for her best friend or sister’s wedding. We added a hairband to complete the look and gave it kind of a ‘beehive volume’ from the back. The make-up incorporated extended eyeliner, which is a modern day take on the 60’s liner with nude lips. This hairstyle is wearable and doable for girls with any kind of hair colour, length and volume.
Designer: Mahgul
Collection: Vita
For the Bridesmaid
The Mahgul piece was almost like an Asian kimono silhouette so we took inspiration from there and created a fox bohock. We definitely pushed it with this look, by adding pink hair that we have been seeing on the London Fashion Week runway. I wanted to add baby pink and silver to see how it would turn out. I was very happy with the look. If girls want to tone it down they can take inspiration from the style but leave out the colour. The make-up for this look was very clean and feminine, with purple eye shadow and nude glossy lips.
