Mehndi

This winter we want to reinvent the old world charm of the mehndi bride. Traditionally on the mehndi a bride always had minimal make-up, slightly undone hair, a bright outfit and floral jewellery. The mehndi specifically calls for a pearly shimmer and perfect glow. Expect the use of lip stains in beautiful fresh colours, soft highlights on the eye, gorgeous cream blushes on the cheek and of course cream highlighters.

Baraat

For the shaadi, I’ve got my hands on some amazing new foundations. When applied correctly, they give a flawless, airbrushed look to any skin. So a perfectly applied base mixed with highlighting the face in a way, where it looks ‘lit up’, rather than greasy, is our go-to look! We’re thinking very bold lips balanced with multi dimensional, softer eyes and lots of smoky lashes.

Valima

For the valima we are moving away from the matte smoky eye, because a luminescent smoky eye is trending. Brides can do a gilded, coloured smoky eye, blended with metallic shades rather than a black smoky eye, with soft lips in all shades of caramel, nectarine and peach.

Party

For the party — bold glitter lips trend for the win!

What to avoid

The very complicated, over-the-top massive hairdos need to go, and it’s also time to bid farewell to excessive contouring!

Mehndi

Mehndi make-up should be minimal in preparation for the big day. Play with your hair and get a nice side braid but make sure the make-up is soft.

Baraat

Baraat is usually traditional. I recommend dark eyes, and a light lipstick based on the ensemble. I always like to do lighter lips and darker eyes.

Valima

It depends on the outfit! Most brides opt for lighter colours on their valima. So a brighter lipstick with lighter eyes in a nice shade of lilac would look best. Keep the hair subtle, loose, and quite modern. This year’s look is fresh and glowy.

Party

For party make-up I like to go for a subtle look and loose hair but it all depends on the client. If they want smoky eyes, they should go for it. Red lipstick also works for party make-up. Less is more this season, it’s all about the glow so go for a relaxed look.

What to avoid

Don’t put on too much foundation, and no white foundation! Even if your jora and jewellery are heavy, too much make-up is dying this season.

Mehndi

Be playful and try a pop-art colour for the eyes with a delicate peach lipstick for the mehndi.

Baraat

Keep it classic and traditional with mahogany eyes and candy apple red lips for the baraat!

Valima

A black glossy eye with glassy lips is a huge trend and would look great for the valima.

Party

We love sparkly or glittery eyes and we definitely encourage dark lips as winter is approaching.

What to avoid

Backcombing, matte skin and black smoky eyes!

Mehndi

On the mehndi remember that you’re going to be all decked up the next day so keep it light with a nice poppy lip or a waterline with some green. Keep it fun and playful but in a subtle, soft way.

Baraat

For a shaadi bride, people are very old school. Everyone wants a Bunto outfit with slick back hair. Make-up is predominately dependent on the clothes, so the first thing I would do this season is tell a bride to move away from those colour tones, and go for a more modern look.

Valima

For the valima, I keep it pale, and sleek.

Party

Party make-up is where I have the most fun, because there’s so much room to experiment and I love out-of-the-box looks. I would just say let your personality shine!

What to avoid

Brides wearing red or pink on a shaadi, and then lighter colours on the valima. Rich, jewel-tones would look great for the valima too. Side-braids with flowers and beads — I’m sick and tired of it! I’m also tired of gold glittery eyes and red lips. I think I’ve made the trend very famous, and I like it, but I don’t think it looks good on everyone. For parties too, side-buns and side-braids should definitely die!

Baraat

For the shaadi, glittery eyes, metallic eyeshades and dewy skin are huge, enough of stick foundation with super thick coverage! It’s important for a bride to be comfortable in whatever look she decides but please use gentle foundation in the shade of your own skin tone. Embrace yourself — it’s pointless to be a different person once all the layers are removed.

Valima

For the valima, a bride should go for bright lips, beautifully blended highlights, blush and full false lashes. Glossy lips and winged liner are making a come back too.

What to avoid

Messy hair and glittery eyes for the valima! Also, over drawn lips and overdone contouring or highlights on the shaadi. Girls must understand that all the images they see online are photoshopped or have perfect lighting.

Mehndi

A bright, fun pop of colour on your lips is great for your mehndi. It is the one day when you can be bold and of the moment. A bright liquid lipstick is the perfect statement lip!

Baraat

Shaadis are all about traditional and regal elegance. Deep ruby or bright scarlet lips, paired with sparkly gold or bronze eyes are classic.

Valima

Valimas are a great space to look slightly subtle after all the elaborate bridal glam that goes on before. Everyone has seen you on your baraat with layers of heavy make-up, so let the valima be a cleaner look. Less is more, so think more Hollywood than Bollywood.

Party

For your party there are no rules! It depends on what you wear. A fun night out usually calls for some glamour, so go for a sultry, smoky eye with glowing skin.

What to avoid

I am not a fan of big, messy hair. It is not my scene! Nor are coloured lenses or white bases for that matter.

Mehndi

For the mehndi, brides should opt for light make-up. Light shimmery eyes with glowing skin and a light lip colour.

Baraat

On the main day, a bride should always look traditional. I love soft eye make-up in shades of gold, with dewy skin and a nice lip colour, which matches the clothes.

Valima

For the valima the make-up needs to be modern, so maybe smoky eyes with nude lips.

Party

For party make-up this season is all about smudged liner and the bronze look.

What to avoid

Overly decked brides with massive hairdos and heavy make-up. For the party, avoid glittery eyes — keep this look for the shaadi or valima.
