An anti-terrorism court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain in connection with his controversial August 22 speech.

MQM-Pakistan leader and Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hasan appeared before the judge. The court expressed displeasure at the absence of MQM founder as well as MQM-Pakistan chief Farooq Sattar and leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Salman Mujahid Baloch.

The court then reissued arrest warrants for the aforementioned leaders and adjourned the hearing till October 15.

Earlier on September 28, an anti-terrorism court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Hussain, Sattar and other party officials in two cases pertaining to Altaf’s hate speech.

Arrest warrants out against Farooq Sattar and others

On October 2, senior members of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London Mustafa Azizabadi, Qasim Ali Raza and Wasay Jalil cancelled Sattar’s party membership for repeatedly committing ‘treason’, saying he had no right to impose administrative decisions.

On August 22, Hussain had uttered anti-state remarks against the state and its institutions and reportedly incited his supporters to launch an attack on televisions stations in the city. A day later, the MQM distanced itself from Hussain and stated that all decisions and policies of the party would be made in Pakistan.
