New MCCI president highlights importance of area on day one
MULTAN:
Southern Punjab will emerge as the most important region in the country after the completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the newly elected Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) president has said.

While delivering his maiden speech after taking over as the MCCI president, Jalaluddin Rumi spelt out his priorities for the coming year. He vowed to establish special economic zones in south Punjab to get maximum benefit from the project.
Roomi said he would focus on the severe energy crisis, improving exports and take measures to save the economy from recession.
“The MCCI would serve as a bridge between the trading community and the policymakers, particularly in Multan and in southern Punjab in general,” he said.
He also announced the formation of an economic advisory committee, comprising leading businessmen and former presidents of the chamber for guidance to achieve economic revival as soon as possible.
He underscored the need to make the income tax return filing system easy and simple for taxpayers.

MCCI Senior Vice-President Bakhtawar Tanvir Sheikh said the government should ensure uninterrupted power supply to the industry when natural gas would be shut down. He said the simplification of taxes would also be on his priority list.
