RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) hopes to gather thousands of supporters from Rawalpindi and surrounding areas to participate in their party’s long-march towards Raiwind today (Friday).

Party leaders in Rawalpindi say they have completed all arrangements in this regard and expect to gather over 3,000 vehicles for their grand convoy.

Sajid Qureshi, a PTI spokesperson in Rawalpindi, told The Express Tribune that PTI presidents in every tehsil of Rawalpindi had been tasked with arranging vehicles for the convoy and to convince party workers and supporters to participate in their march.

The PTI had also set up a registration camp at Liaquat Bagh five days ago to register party workers willing to march to Raiwind.

To boost registrations, PTI MNA, Asad Umer visited the camp on Wednesday and urged party workers back party chief Imran Khan against corrupt rulers.

Qureshi,  said that they were expecting convoys filled  with supporters to arrive from Murree, Kotli Sattian, Kahuta, Kallar Syedan, Gujar Khan, Potohar Town, Rawal Town, and Taxila.

These convoys will gather at the old toll plaza on the Motorway.

Qureshi said that the caravan will stop at Sial Interchange where they expect a convoy of party supporters from Sargodha division would join them. He added that PTI leaders would also address party workers at the interchange.

He added that workers hailing from Attock will join them on the Motorway. Party supporters from Gujar Khan and Chakwal are expected to join the caravan at the Balkasar interchange while workers from Jehlum will join the motorcade at Lila Interchange.

The PTI spokesperson said that party workers had arranged for vehicles and food for the workers on their own. Asked how many vehicles he was expecting to be part of this convoy, he estimated that over 3, 000 buses, coaches and cars were  likely to form their caravan and that they expected to reach Lahore late in the afternoon.

He said that the party workers themselves had arranged the transportation and food for the march.

Regarding efforts for mobilising the party workers, Qureshi said that party representatives and elected MNAs and MPAs had spent a lot of time rallying support for the march and hoped that a large number of PTI workers would march towards Lahore from Rawalpindi and
Sargodha divisions.
