Promoting Poultry: Livestock dept sells 1,800 chickens

About 300 units, each comprising five hens and one rooster, were sold to farmers

In order to encourage domestic poultry farming, the Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department sold about 1,800 birds at subsidised prices on Wednesday. About 300 units, each comprising five hens and one rooster, were sold to farmers at subsidised rates of Rs840 per unit at nine different points in Kahina, Cooper Road, Chuhng, Harbanspura, Ali Raza Abad, AR Bazaar, Ghazi Road, Rakh Chand Rae and Civil Secretariat. The department plans to distribute 73,000 units of chickens in the 36 districts of Punjab in a phased programme. Interested farmers can register with the department and then according to the fixed number of chicken units, birds are distributed on a ‘first-register, first-get’ basis. The Lahore district will get about 18,000 birds, while other districts will be provided 12,000 chickens.
