KARACHI:
After announcing the results of intermediate arts students and special group, Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has finished the results declarations for the year 2016.
A total of 60% candidates failed to pass their annual examinations for intermediate in arts. "The results have been consistently the same since the last three years and it is sad to see that our students are failing to perform better in arts," said examination controller Imran Khan Chishti while announcing the result in the award ceremony at the BIEK office on Monday.
"The education department should take strong steps and actions should be taken against why there is no concept of regular classes and also review the admission policy," he added.
Complaining about the promised scholarships, BIEK chairperson Akhter Ghauri said that announced scholarships to last year's position holders have yet to be approved. He said he will also write to the chief minister to get the scholarships approved and announce more scholarships.
When asked about the student whose results were withheld, Ghauri remarked "I have written four letters to the relevant department and we are waiting for their permission to announce the results of the withheld students." The results of 95 students withheld after Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) took their answer-sheets with them during a raid at the BIEK office in August this year were also announced.
Explaining that, Chishti said an official letter was sent to ACE from BIEK in this regard.
He added that the results for first year annual examination will be announced in the first week of November.
The chief guest at the ceremony, Ziaudding University vice-chancellor Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, encouraged the students to play their part in building the nation. He was also of the view that the specifications of the faculties should be finished and a student should be allowed to change his or her subjects if they feel. There should not be any boundary for students who have studied commerce but later want to study science, he said.
