Performance report: Sukkur police arrest eight TTP members
Nearly 8,000 suspects detained between April and September this year

To implement the National Action Plan (NAP), the Sukkur police along with other law enforcement agencies carried out two combing operations from April to September this year and arrested eight suspected members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), besides hundred others.
Sukkur SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh told The Express Tribune on Monday that about two kilogrammes of explosives, five grenades and as many packets of ball bearings and wires used in the preparation of suicide vests were seized from the TTP suspects.
During the period, a total of 7,689 suspects were apprehended, of which 198 were taken into custody after proper investigation, he said. Two allegedly wanted criminals were killed in the encounters while 21 suspects were arrested in an injured condition. Besides, 1,992 suspects involved in different crimes and 724 absconders were also arrested, he added. The police also recovered 13 cars, 115 motorcycles and 19 other vehicles, which were either stolen or snatched.
Talking about the action taken against the illegal immigrants, the SSP said that during the period 90 illegal immigrants including Afghan nationals were arrested.
Acting upon the NAP, wall-chalking at 1,396 places were removed and 1,139 flags were also taken off, he claimed. The police arrested 64 suspects involved in these crimes and seized illegal weapons from them as well.
During the checking of the vehicles, 9,541 vehicles were found without registration and resultantly 7,689 suspects were taken into custody, of which 198 criminals were booked, said SSP Shaikh.
23 unregistered seminaries
Religious seminaries throughout the district were also checked, he said, adding that about 237 of them were registered and 23 were unregistered. Besides this, search operations were also conducted in 53 religious seminaries throughout the district to avert any terrorist activity.
To maintain law and order during the Muharram, the SSP informed that committees at the level of police station, tehsils and district have been formed, comprising ulemas and police officials. To provide security during Muharram, police will be on high alert and Rangers will be available to support them.
