Netflix rival iflix set to launch in Pakistan soon

Kuala Lumpur-based movie streaming service iflix is set to launch in Pakistan.

The company partners with over 150 studios and content distributors the world over seeking to secure a foothold in developing countries. These include the likes of Paramount, Fox, CBS, Warner Bros and Disney.

Television giant Netflix comes to Pakistan

Iflix defines itself as service that lets you “access a crazy huge selection of your favourite shows, THOUSANDS of TV shows, movies and more from all over the globe. Shows from Hollywood and Hong Kong, Seoul and Shanghai, Thailand and Tokyo. And imagine being able to watch it whenever you want, wherever you want, 24/7 on your phone, laptop, tablet and TV,” according to a post on its website.

Iflix will offer a free one-month subscription when it launches, allowing access on up to five devices. Co-founder and CEO Mark Britt recently said that iflix closely resembled music streaming service Spotify rather than its direct rival Netflix. “We think the metaphor for iflix is not Netflix, it’s Spotify,” he said.

Netflix launched in Pakistan earlier this year. It remains to be seen whether iflix would be able to compete with the television giant here. Although there has been no official word on it yet, iflix is expected to launch anytime now.
