Cross-border militant attack repulsed
Pakistan has maintained that Kunar is being used as a ‘safe haven’ by many militant outfits
PESHAWAR:
Militants carried out on Friday cross-border firing, using heavy weaponry in Mohmand and Bajaur agencies, but they fled when Pakistani security forces retaliated.
The incidents took place in Safi tehsil in the Mohmand Agency and the Nava Pass area in Bajaur.
“Militants used heavy and light weapons,” a senior security official said. “There were no casualties.”
At least 28 killed in suicide blast at Mohmand Agency mosque
Pakistani security forces deployed on the border responded when they were fired upon by the militants, forcing the militants to retreat.
Both areas are adjacent to the Kunar province of Afghanistan.
Pakistan has maintained that Kunar is being used as a ‘safe haven’ by many militant outfits that escaped military operations in Pakistan’s tribal areas and they operate from Kunar, carrying out acts of terrorism.
