ISLAMABAD: A judicial magistrate on Friday remanded two suspects, arrested on charges of murder and robbery, in to police custody for three days.

The accused, Abdur Rehman and Usman Butt, along with a third man had allegedly tried to rob a pedestrian on gunpoint before killing their partner.

Muhammad Hussain was returning from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on September 12 when he was intercepted by three armed men in Sector G-8/2 who tried to rob him.  When Hussain tried to resist them, he was struck with the butt of a pistol. In his complaint lodged with the police, Hussain said, the suspects also opened fire in which one of the robbers, identified as Waqas Asghar, was killed on the spot.

The police registered a murder and robbery case on September 13 and launched a manhunt for the two New Bokra area natives and finally Karachi Company Police nabbed them on September 20.

The duo was produced before Judicial Magistrate Jawad Hussain Adil on Friday. Additional Karachi Company SHO Muhammad Riaz, who is also investigation officer (IO) for the case, told the court that police had recovered the gun from the possession of the suspects which had been used in the crime.

The court was further informed that the motorcycle used by the suspects was also involved in another robbery case registered at Ramna Police Station a few days ago.

The officer requested the court to grant five-day physical remand of the suspects arguing that they had already confessed to committing multiple robberies in the federal capital. The court, however, allowed three-day remand of both the suspects and directed the police to produce them again on September 26.
