QUETTA:
Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a police officer in Quetta, less than two weeks after two personnel were killed in a roadside blast in the provincial capital.

The armed men opened fire at Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) sub-inspector Muhammad Zafar who was on his way on a motorbike, a police spokesperson said. The gunmen managed to flee the scene of crime.

The incident occurred near Dubai Shopping Centre, Nawan Killi area, the spokesperson added.


At least two policemen dead, five others injured in Quetta blast

The officer's body was shifted to Civil Hospital, Quetta while police have started an investigation into the incident.

Earlier on September 13, two policemen were killed and five other people were injured as a roadside blast targeted a police vehicle near Sariab Road of the city. Similarly, on June 28, four policemen were shot dead in two separate targeted attacks in Quetta.

Attacks on security forces by militants are not rare in Balochistan. The province has long been plagued by homegrown separatist insurgency and extremist violence which has left hundreds of people dead in the last couple of years.
