A “public service message” shared by Minister of Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal on social media has landed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) heavyweight in a soup.

Early on Thursday, Iqbal shared a seemingly innocuous post on the ill-effects of cocaine on social media. As the message gained traction, many started rapping the minister for taking an indirect swipe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan.

“This is below the belt. Don’t stoop to this level,” one Twitter user wrote. But Iqbal quickly denied making a reference to anyone when he replied, “There are no names in my tweet so how is this below belt.”

He also responded to the accusation on Facebook. “Some PTI friends are getting angry for nothing. I didn't name anyone. It is a public service message to make our youth aware about damage this brings to mind and behavior.” Replying to another user who criticised him on Facebook, he wrote, “Why are you so upset I didn't name anyone.”
