Creative expression: Innovative learning through filmmaking
Weeklong ‘Once upon a Film’ underway at Faiz Ghar
LAHORE:
A development programme aimed at working closely with young people using the medium of art and new media to promote education and positive social values through innovative learning opportunities is underway at Faiz Ghar.
Organised by The Little Art, the weeklong ‘Once upon a Film’ project includes an intensive filmmaking workshop that helps beginners to develop self-confidence and critical thinking skills whilst simultaneously fostering creative expression and collaboration in a fun environment.
According to Sahar Ahmed, The Little Art programmes manager, the project is in collaboration with Faiz Ghar for the promotion of the progressive and humanistic ideas of Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The participants will create a short film by immersing themselves in the complete process from the beginning to the end.
She said the participants would eventually have a chance to enter their completed film for inclusion in the 8th Lahore International Children’s Film Festival 2016.
The festival is the largest film festival for youth and celebrates some of the best films made for, by and about children and young people from around the world.
“It is a free workshop for young upcoming filmmakers to showcase their talent at the Lahore film festival, where all supplies are provided by the organisation,” Sahar said. “One of the main goals of this activity is to ensure that children all over Pakistan regardless of their background are given the chance at creative process.”
Filmmaker and trainer Fazal Ahmed said the learning programme was aimed at opening up imagination and creative process through using film as an art medium. “We encourage children to channelise their expressions, reflect their daily life experiences and share ideas,” he said.
