Corruption inquiry: NAB summons 42 former and serving LG officers

HYDERABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated a broad investigation against the Sindh local government (LG) department on allegations of corruption.

As many as 42 former and serving officers, including former LG department secretaries Ali Ahmed Loond and Javed Hanif Khan, have been summoned in NAB's Karachi office on Monday (September 26).

The NAB issued a call-up notice in this regard on Tuesday.

"The competent authority has taken cognisance of the offence(s) of corruption and corrupt practices inter alia by misusing their authority and making illegal appointments in [the] local government department," reads the NAB's notice, which finds the offence punishable with up to 14 years after conviction under Section 10 of the NAB Ordinance, 1999.

"The inquiry conducted so far reveals that the listed officers of the department have been involved in the commission of the above-mentioned offences."

The summoned officers are either currently posted at or have previously served in Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Dadu District Council, municipal committees and town committees of 12 districts of Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions.

The officers have been asked to appear before the NAB's inquiry officer in Pak Secretariat in Karachi.
