Tribal ‘justice' : Man involved in holding jirga arrested
Jirga had slapped a fine on a man declared ‘karo’ and ordered the killing of the alleged ‘kari’
SUKKUR:
The Sukkur police arrested on Saturday night one out of the five men accused of involvement in holding a Jirga in Rajab Dayo village near Rohri.
The suspects had organised a jirga a couple of days ago to resolve a karo-kari dispute. In its verdict, the jirga had slapped a fine of Rs250,000 on the man declared 'karo' and had ordered the killing of the alleged 'kari'.
Sukkur SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh took notice of the jirga's verdict and ordered Rohri SHO Jahangir Mahar to investigate the matter and register an FIR against those found involved.
SHO Mahar visited the house of Illahi Bux Shaikh situated at Massan Road and recorded the statement of Mukhtiar Khatoon, who has been labeled 'kari'.
Later, an FIR No 124/16 was registered under Sections 350, 355, 506/2, 211, 120-B and 148 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of ASI Sajjid Ali Gadani against five men, identified as Saindad Shaikh, Mullah Shaman Shaikh, Ghulam Haider Shaikh and his brother, Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, and the man declared karo, Manzoor Jat. Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh has been arrested.
SHO Mahar told The Express Tribune that after the arrest of one of the accused, the police have been conducting raids in different places to arrest the remaining accused.
Besides this, he said, police protection has also been provided to the woman and her parents.
"I have also talked to the woman in question and have provided fool-proof security to her and her parents," said SSP Shaikh. "Any offence challenging the writ of the law is simply intolerable and no accused, no matter how influential, will be spared."
